My Thoughts on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
As Catholics, we deserve leaders who uphold the Church’s teachings and be a good example of the Catholic faith—both in Church leadership and in public and private life.
Sadly, many Catholic religious leaders in the United States haven’t lived up to their obligation when it comes to condemning liberal “Catholic” politicians who openly support and enact abortion policies.
That is particularly true with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
On November 7, the USCCB released a statement recognizing Democrat Joe Biden as “President-Elect.” This organization of Catholic bishops sent their congratulations to Biden and his running mate, Kamala Harris, an avowed anti-Catholic bigot and abortion extremist.
This proclamation shows that the USCCB has accepted a “President” Biden in the White House, even as more evidence of voter fraud and voting irregularities have come to light in the month since Election Day, Nov. 3.
There are plenty of examples of voter fraud and voting irregularities conducted in key swing states in order to help Biden beat President Trump—from the polls closing on Election Night, to dumps of ballots in the middle of the night, to the controversies surrounding Dominion Voting Systems, to hundreds and thousands of sworn affidavits from people in battleground swing states who witnessed voter fraud and voting irregularities (people who know fully well they could spend 15 years in prison if they’re making false statements in these sworn affidavits), to Democrats’ efforts to change voting laws (for example, not requiring signatures on mail-in ballots to match the signatures on file), and so on. The list goes on.
To the best of my knowledge, the USCCB hasn’t issued a statement regarding the voter fraud and voting irregularity claims conducted for Biden.
Does the USCCB think conservative Catholic Americans should accept a “President” Biden given the fraud and irregularities we are seeing?
Yet a week after the USCCB’s recognition of Biden’s “victory,” USCCB’s Archbishop José Gomez highlighted some points of Biden’s policies are against the Church’s teachings.
Where was the USCCB in the months leaving up to the 2020 Election Day?
We would have liked to hear the bishops speak out more openly against Biden’s policies in the months before November 3.
It looks like the USCCB believes that Catholic voters and conservatives politicians should push for “unity” if Biden “wins” the 2020 Election, but didn’t consider Biden’s anti-Catholic and anti-life policies until after the Election was over, especially after the USCCB congratulated him as though Catholics should be happy with a potential Biden Administration.
Yet the bishops are apparently silent on the threats, violence and character assassination made against conservatives and Trump supporters by far-left groups and many Democrat politicians and members of the liberal media.
Conservative columnist Larry Elder rightly states that Trump supporters (including Catholic ones) won’t accept calls for “unity” and “healing” from the same people who called us and President Trump “Nazis” and “racists,” among other things.
The same people who have vilified and attacked us online, in politics, in the media and in the streets are the same type of people that the Catholic bishops at the USCCB want Catholic conservatives and Trump supporters to get along with.
We have been putting up with those attacks for four years now, even before Trump won in 2016.
Some Catholic Church leaders are also quick to attack President Donald Trump and Trump supporters, including conservative Catholic Americans, while refusing to call out violent leftist extremists by name.
It doesn’t help matters that Pope Francis claimed in his new book that President Donald Trump and Trump supporters are just like Nazi Germany.
Even though Pope Francis doesn’t list Trump or the United States by name it is obvious the Pope is talking about them when he discusses “populist” leaders and crowds at their “rallies.”
Now, Pope Francis has spoken out against President Donald Trump and Trump supporters (many of whom are conservatives), including Catholics who support Trump, and the Pope doesn’t have to agree with them. But he can’t compare President Trump and ordinary Americans to the evils of Nazi Germany. He loses half his audience.
Pope Francis comparing President Trump, Trump’s “America First” agenda and policies, Trump “MAGA” rallies and Trump supporters to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis of the 1930s, echoes the Left’s derogatory rhetoric against President Trump, Republicans, and Conservatives.
Does the Pope not know or care that he is alienating everyday American Catholics by saying they are “Nazis”?
Does Pope Francis also consider Catholic nuns wearing “MAGA” gear at Trump rallies as “Nazis”?
I don’t see Pope Francis going out of his way to call out AntiFa “Blackshirts” and BLM Marxists or compare them to the followers of Lenin, Stalin, Castro and Mao, especially in the wake of violent protests, riots, and looting that Americans have witnessed over this summer?
Has Pope Francis condemned California Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters when in 2018 she encouraged supporters to harass and threaten Trump officials in public and in restaurants? Or when Democrat Senators attacked now-Justice Amy Coney Barrett for her devout Catholic faith both in 2017 and 2020?
Did Pope Francis ever compare the anti-Catholic bigotry from Democratic Senators Dianne Feinstein, Maize Hirono, and Kamala Harris to the anti-Catholic “Know-Nothing Party” of the 1800s? Does he see nothing wrong with Hirono and Harris attacking the Catholic Knights of Columbus organization, or when Feinstein told now-Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett back in 2017 that “the dogma lives loudly within you, and that’s of concern”?
It’s interesting that Pope Francis, like many liberals in the Catholic Church, is so quick to condemn President Trump and American conservatives, but he refuses to do the same when it comes to liberals and other people on the Left.
Brian Burch, President of CatholicVote, is right when he says the “integrity of the Church” is at stake.
American Catholic laypeople are tired of our Church’s leadership staying silent or not doing enough to condemn “Catholic” politicians who publicly and openly support and enact abortion policies.
What does it say to faithful practicing Catholics when Catholic bishops and archbishops refuse to publicly condemn “Catholic” Democrat politicians whose public records show they don’t follow the Church’s teaching that life begins at conception?
It alienates us. That’s what it means once you boil down to the heat of the matter.
It angers us. These men and women are making a mockery of what it means to be Catholic, yet our Bishops and religious leaders are silent.
It disconnects us. Why should faithful Catholics uphold any Church policy when Church leaders are not condemning these so-called “Catholics” over their public support of abortion laws?
It shows us that a lot of the leaders within the Catholic Church in the U.S. don’t care enough to call out these hypocrites and stand up for unborn human children.
It tells us that the USCCB—and by extension, U.S. cardinals and bishops—are more inclined to attack President Trump and Trump supporters (including Catholic ones) than to condemn “Catholic” Democrats who openly support abortion and enable abortion policies.
We saw this with Archbishop Wilton Gregory of the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., who is now a Cardinal.
Then-Archbishop Gregory falsely accused Trump of racism and then later refused to attend a signing ceremony where President Trump signed an executive order aimed at protecting international religious liberty.
President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump, a Catholic, visited the Saint John Paul II National Shrine in Washington, D.C., on June 2, 2020, where President Trump signed the executive order.
The visit was planned long in advance, so Gregory knew ahead of time that it was going to happen.
Yet Gregory condemned President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for going to the JPII Shrine in the first place, calling the Trumps’ visit “baffling and reprehensible.”
Gregory’s anti-Trump and anti-conservative remarks drew backlash from Conservative American Catholics.
In response to Gregory’s remarks against Trump’s visit to the JPII Shrine, conservative news organization LifeSite created a petition asking Gregory to apologize to Trump and the Knights of Columbus in June 2020.
LifeSite delivered its petition to Gregory’s office on Nov. 2.
And then on Nov. 24, Gregory stated that he will give Joe Biden access to Holy Communion, even in the face of Biden’s pro-choice and anti-life policies aimed at expanding abortion and force American taxpayers to pay for it.
In contrast, Archbishop Charles Chaput wrote that Biden shouldn’t receive communion because Biden gives “great scandal to the faithful” for supporting abortion while claiming he’s a faithful Catholic.
Chaput also called out bishops who don’t speak up against these scandalous Catholics politicians.
I’m pretty sure Archbishop Gregory fits into that category.
And where was Archbishop Gregory when Joe Biden promised that he would continue the Obama-Biden Administration’s attacks against the Little Sisters of the Poor, vowing to force these Catholic nuns to pay for abortion drugs by bringing back the ObamaCare Individual Mandate?
It is obvious Church leaders like Archbishop Gregory put politics and left-wing activism ahead of seeking middle ground or defending the Catholic faith.
The USCCB itself has a history of betraying the trust of Catholic laypeople, especially American Catholics, when it comes to the abortion issue.
It was only after Biden “won” the 2020 Election that the bishops issued a statement against Biden’s pro-abortion agenda—and that was only after the USCCB issued a statement congratulating Biden and Harris.
There have been cases where individual bishops and priests spoke out against these bad Catholics.
But at what point do we say that it isn’t enough to ban these people from receiving Communion? These “Catholic” politicians are alienating real Catholics and making a mockery of the Church’s teachings against abortion.
Furthermore, Democrat Senators Dick Durbin and Tim Kaine (two men who claim to be “Catholic”) voted against pro-life bills in the U.S. Senate that were aimed at protecting babies that survived failed abortions (infanticide) and unborn children.
If Durbin and Kaine were Catholics who cared about their faith and following the Church’s teachings, they would have at least recognized the need to protect babies and that life begins at conception.
And to close, I’ll discuss Joe Biden.
Joe Biden has promised to repeal the Hyde Amendment, expand abortion in the United States, and impose the same oppressive Obama-Biden era penalties against the Little Sisters of the Poor.
Talk to any faithful practicing Catholic, and they will tell you that a good Catholic would never attack Catholic nuns or force them to provide contraceptives.
Biden should know better.
Yet Joe Biden continues to push his “Catholic” faith around, despite his own party attacking the faith of now-Justice Amy Coney Barrett.
Biden and the Democrats want American taxpayers (including Catholic Americans) to directly fund abortions. That goes against our beliefs as Americans and our faith as Catholics.
And finally, Joe Biden hasn’t condemned the far left-wing radical groups like AntiFa and Black Lives Matter. These groups and their members have also desecrated Catholic buildings and imagery throughout our country over the summer. We’ve seen this as violent left-wing mobs and anarchists attacked Catholic Churches, desecrated images of Jesus Christ and Mother Mary and tore down statues of St. Serra at Catholic missions in California.
These groups also pushed to tear down the statue of St. Louis King of France in St. Louis, Missouri.
And that’s without mentioning that “Catholic” Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris, an avowed pro-abortion and anti-Catholic bigot who attacked the Knights of Columbus, as his Vice Presidential nominee.
In December 2018, Senators Kamala Harris and Maize Hirono attacked then-judicial nominee Brian Buescher’s Catholic faith and his membership in the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic organization for Catholic men, during Buescher’s confirmation.
Both Harris and Hirono attacked the Knights of Columbus for upholding the Church’s positions against abortion and homosexual “marriage.”
Do we honestly think Biden was a good example of a faithful practicing Catholic, especially given his selection of Harris as his Vice Presidential pick? Of course not.
And just this week, Biden announced he would appoint left-wing abortion extremist California Attorney General Xavier Becerra as the Department of Health and Human Services if Biden is inaugurated in January.
Becerra has spent his entire political career pushing for expansions on abortion. He has also made it his life’s mission to persecute the Little Sisters of the Poor and force these Catholic nuns to fund contraceptives and other abortion drugs.
As California Attorney General, Becerra continued Kamala Harris’ criminal prosecution (when she was California Attorney General) against pro-life investigation journalist David Daleiden and his associates after they uncovered Planned Parenthood’s illegal harvesting of human tissue and organs from unborn babies.
He attempted to violate the free speech rights of the National Institute of Family Life Advocates (NIFLA), a pro-life pregnancy help center, in an effort to force them to post abortion service signs at their facilities.
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of NIFLA in the 2018 NIFLA v. Becerra case.
And during his 2017 confirmation hearings to become California Attorney General, Becerra stated that religious organizations and institutions shouldn’t have the same religious freedom protections as individuals do.
This means that Becerra, a far-left extremist, believes religious organizations and institutions like Catholic parishes, Catholic colleges, and religious-affiliated non-profit groups like NIFLA and the Little Sisters of the Poor, don’t deserve Religious Freedom rights guaranteed by the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
That is the man Joe Biden has chosen to run the U.S. Health and Human Services Department under a potential Biden-Harris Administration.
Does that sound like someone a faithful practicing Catholic would appoint to a cabinet position?
Anyone with common sense can see that Biden is an abortion extremist who has abandoned his “Catholic” faith, especially when it comes to abortion. His selection of Becerra
If Biden is inaugurated as President, he and Becerra are going to persecute Catholic nuns and people with religious beliefs.
A “President” Biden would continue to paint the false picture that faithful Catholics can support abortion policies, even as his party attacks faithful practicing Catholics. He would use his administration to enact the Obama-Biden era HHS Mandate to persecute Catholic nuns and Catholic organizations.
It is for these reasons and more that Joe Biden and other like-minded “Catholic” Democrats should be excommunicated from the Catholic Church.
Many liberal Catholic leaders may think that action is extreme, but that’s where we are.
We are at the point where there’s growing division in the Church, just as our country is divided.
If you want to know why more Catholics aren’t going to Mass or why many are falling away from the Church, it’s because .
It’s not just Covid-19.
It’s not just the sex abuse scandal.
It’s Church religious leaders focused on left-wing social justice activism instead of protecting unborn human life.
It’s the USCCB’s failure or inability to publicly condemn so-called “Catholic” politicians who’ve spent years and even decades supporting and pushing to expand abortion policies throughout the United States.
Fr. James Altman is right that the “majority of Catholic bishops who have not spoken up” deserve blame if Biden wins in 2020 because these bishops refused to warn Catholic voters about the dangers of Biden’s pro-abortion policies and statements before Nov. 3.
It is time to show our fellow Catholics, our country, and the world that these Democrat Catholics In Name Only do not represent the Church’s faithful.
It is time that people like Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Dick Durbin, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Andrew Cuomo and Tim Kaine know that they are against the Catholic Church and will either be banned from receiving Holy Communion or be excommunicated.
It’s time for us Catholics to take action and go on the offensive.
The future of the Catholic Church in the United States depends on it.
