Reaction to Trump’s 2019 State of the Union Address

Pope Benedict XVI is famous for saying: “The World promises you comfort, but you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.”

My alma mater, Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, was inspired by the Pope’s words so much that the theme for one of my academic years was “Made for Greatness.”

In his second State of the Union Address to a join session of Congress, President Trump’s message was about greatness.

American greatness.

The President opened his speech by discussing the American victory in World War II, when in June 1944, D-Day, American soldiers launched a land, air, and sea invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe in order to achieve victory.

President Trump continued by stating that fifty years ago, in 1969, the United States became the first and only country to land men on the Moon. He then introduced Buzz Aldrin, the second man to walk on the Moon, to the audience.

He continued with how strong the American economy has become under his presidency. 6 million new jobs created, record unemployment levels, and the fact that companies are coming back to the United States due to the new low tax rates and regulations.

These are just some of the highlights of Trump’s second State of the Union Address

Regardless of your political affiliation, you got to admit the United States is a great country.

The themes Trump stressed in his State of the Union address are “Greatness” and “Unity.” The agenda he stressed isn’t Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal, red or blue. It is the agenda of the American people.

As Americans, we don’t on all the issues. That’s okay. We don’t have to agree on everything. It’d be boring if we did. But we should accept each other’s differences and work towards a better America - one that puts the American people first and protects the most vulnerable in our society: unborn children.

The United States is a great country. We are going to keep it great, and make America greater.

Americans can be proud of their country. They have nothing to be ashamed of. They have every right to support President Trump and want what is best for ordinary Americans.

MAGA hats aren’t racist. They are a symbol of American patriotism and conservative principles.

Supporting President Trump isn’t wrong. We have every right to support a man working for everyday Americans and putting America First. There’s nothing wrong about that.

President Trump is a successful businessman. He built his business from scratch. And whether you like it or not, a successful President. He has kept his promises he has made to the American people, and he’s gonna keep more of them.

Another word for comfort is “easy.” Comfort is “easy” when it doesn’t require a lot of work.

It’s easy to give into hate instead of standing by your beliefs and convictions, especially today. It’s easy to give up instead of persevering in the face of hardship.

But that’s not what we are meant to do. Or how to live our lives.

No one said it’s gonna be easy. Nothing worth having or fighting for is.

We aren’t made for comfort. We are made for greatness.
