(Parody) Activists and Corporations step up push to force all Sports Teams to change Names, Logos

[Disclaimer: This article is a parody story. While some events in this article are actually taking place, it is written for comedy purposes and shouldn’t be taken too seriously.]

First, it was the Washington Redskins.

Now, it is every major, minor, college and high school sports team.

The NFL’s Washington Redskins released a statement today that they will be changing their team’s name and logo, dropping the “Redskins” name.

Activist groups and corporations are pushing to force other sports organizations to change their team names and logos.

Animal-rights activist group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) attacked sports organizations named after animals, including the NFL’s Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers, Baltimore Ravens and Philadelphia Eagles; MLB’s St. Louis Cardinals, Chicago Cubs, Baltimore Orioles; and many more teams; NHL’s Buffalo Sabres and Florida Panthers; and the NBA’s Chicago Bulls, Dallas Mavericks and Toronto Raptors.

“These organizations are appropriating the likenesses of animals for profit,” PETA wrote in a statement on its social media accounts. “At the same time, by honoring one kind or breed of animal, they are saying other animals aren’t worthy of praise and that is discrimination.”

Teams named after specific groups of people are also now under pressure to change their names, including, to name a few, the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and NBA’s Boston Celtics.

Native American activists condemned the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs and Dallas Cowboys, MLB’s Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians and the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawks, claiming that those names are racist against Native Americans – either by “glorifying white people and America’s Western culture” or taking the likeness of “Native peoples” for money.

Progressive and Liberal groups like AntiFa demanded that the NFL’s New England Patriots, NHL’s Washington Capitals and MLB’s Washington Nationals change their names because those names are “pro-American.”

“We don’t care about American history or the history behind these organizations,” AntiFa posted on Facebook, referring to the. “The Patriots, Nationals and the Capitals need to change their names and logos to ones that don’t glorify the United States or show pride in being an American.”

Even teams named after objects and items are being attacked.

Black Lives Matter (BLM), a far-left Marxist organization, attacked MLB’s Chicago White Sox and Boston Red Sox.

“What? White socks and red socks matter but black ones don’t?” BLM posted on Twitter. “That’s systemic racism in baseball. Black Sox Matter!”

Democrat leaders spoke out in support of putting pressure on sports organizations.

“There is no room for hate in this country,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said at a press briefing. “That’s why these organizations must change their names and conform to our accepted norms or else we will label them as ‘racists’ and cut off their funding.”

“Our country can’t allow people to steal from other people for their own personal or professional benefit,” Democrat Presidential Nominee Joe Biden said in a video interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo. “I mean, not like the way I stole President Donald Trump’s ‘America First’ economic policy for my own campaign agenda for the American economy and—”

Biden’s video feed cut out at that moment.

The Biden campaign release a statement, claiming that the video abruptly ended due to “technical difficulties” and “had nothing to do with allegations Biden stole the pro-American policies pushed by President Trump for the last four years.”

It is unclear what names these sports teams would change to if they comply with the activists’ backlash, given the fact that any name they choose has the potential to offend some people.

Regular sports fans – ordinary people and season ticket holders alike – ignored the calls to boycott sports teams
