Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Episode Four review

There’s a reason parents always tell their children, “Never talk to strangers.” The Bad Batch learn that lesson the hard way.   In Episode Four, “Cornered,” the Bad Batch have exhausted their food and fuel supplies. They are forced to go on supply run in order to restock fuel and rations before they can hide on a nearby world from the Empire until things settle down.   As we’ve seen with the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic and the winter storms of 2020-2021, it helps to be well-provisioned and well-stocked   The team also tangles with a bounty hunter named Fennec Shand, who has her sights on capturing Omega.   Fennec made her first appearance in the Disney+ live-action TV series, “The Mandalorian,” which is set about twenty-five years after the events of “The Bad Batch.”   While on their supply run, Hunter, Echo and Omega see citizens cheering on the new Empire. They see that people are happy the Clone Wars are over.   Hunter is forced to “sell” Echo in order ...

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Episode Three review

Have you ever wondered why the human soldiers in the Galactic Empire supported the Empire and even went along in the cases when the Imperial Forces did horrible things?   “Star Wars: The Bad Batch” answers those questions without treating the regular, everyday human soldiers as villains. In Episode Three, titled “Replacements,” Hunter, Omega and the Bad Batch are low on supplies and food, forcing them to ration. They are still getting used to have the kid Omega onboard their ship. Tech is also building a device to test the effectiveness of their inhibitor chips, making sure that they don’t end up like Crosshair and lose their individualism and free will. On top of that, their ship is having problems and they need to repair it. The damages are severe, forcing their ship to be thrown out of hyperspace and crash land on a barren rock moon. Meanwhile on Kamino, Crosshair is undergoing more procedures to enhance his inhibitor chip by Governor Tarkin and the Kaminoans. An Imperial Office...

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Episode Two review

If you think parenting is easy in a Galaxy Far, Far Away, see what Hunter and the Bad Batch have to deal with when “raising” Omega. Whereas Din Djarin of “The Mandalorian” had to take care of an infant Baby Yoda (Grogu, as he is called), Hunter and the Bad Batch have to deal with an adolescent female clone. In Episode Two, titled “Cut and Run,” Hunter and Omega develop their growing father-daughter figure dynamic. After successfully fleeing Kamino and the Empire, Hunter and his team make their escape to the planet Saleucami. Omega, who spent her entire life on the ocean and rainy world of Kamino, has never seen grass, sunshine, and dirt before. These everyday things that we (and the Bad Batch) take for granted are Christmas and Easter morning rolled into one for the young female clone. On Saleucami, Hunter and the Bad Batch meet up with Cut Lawquane, a Clone trooper who deserted the Old Republic during the Clones Wars, and has lived peacefully with his wife and two children.   Seei...

Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Episode One review

“Star Wars: The Bad Batch (2021-present)” is a sequel series to the hit TV show “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” It premiered on Disney+ on May 4, Star Wars Day. The show follows the titular Clone unit, who were first introduced in Season Seven of “The Clone Wars,” during the last days of the Clone Wars and the beginning of the Galactic Empire. Led by clone Hunter, the Bad Batch is a special forces squad made up of defective Clone Troopers with enhanced genetic mutations — made up of leader Hunter, brainy Tech, cyborg Echo (who used to be a regular Clone trooper before being captured and tortured by the Separatists), sharpshooter Crosshair and bulldozer Wrecker. In Episode One, titled “Aftermath,” the Bad Batch experience firsthand the events of Order 66–which saw the Clone troopers nearly wipe out the Jedi—and the rise of the Galactic Empire. The Bad Batch’s own journey is reminiscent of current politics in our present day United States. There is a change in government (from the Old Repub...

A Review of The Mandalorian: Season One

A long time ago, in a place not so far away, . . .   George Lucas created the “Star Wars Original Trilogy.” These films told the story of a group of Rebels fighting against the Galactic Empire. They were able to defeat the Empire and establish the New Republic.   Now, Disney and LucasFilm tell the story of what happened once the New Republic had risen to power in “The Mandalorian (DisneyPlus),” a live-action TV series set about five years after the events of “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”   The show follows a bounty hunter known as the Mandalorian (played by Pedro Pascal). He is a member of the Bounty Hunter Guild led by Greef Karga (played by Carl Weathers) who specializes in bringing in criminals for money. The Guild operates on the lava planet Nevarro, where a few surviving Mandalorians have established a hideout underneath the city. As audiences, we see that this part of Star Wars is reminiscent of the American Wild West, a time of lawmen and outlaws. L...
