Star Wars: The Bad Batch - Episode Four review
There’s a reason parents always tell their children, “Never talk to strangers.”
The Bad Batch learn that lesson the hard way.
In Episode Four, “Cornered,” the Bad Batch have exhausted their food and fuel supplies. They are forced to go on supply run in order to restock fuel and rations before they can hide on a nearby world from the Empire until things settle down.
As we’ve seen with the Chinese Coronavirus pandemic and the winter storms of 2020-2021, it helps to be well-provisioned and well-stocked
The team also tangles with a bounty hunter named Fennec Shand, who has her sights on capturing Omega.
Fennec made her first appearance in the Disney+ live-action TV series, “The Mandalorian,” which is set about twenty-five years after the events of “The Bad Batch.”
While on their supply run, Hunter, Echo and Omega see citizens cheering on the new Empire. They see that people are happy the Clone Wars are over.
Hunter is forced to “sell” Echo in order to gain money, with every intention of Echo escaping once the ship is ready to leave. While doing so, Omega wonders off from her friends after an alien creature steals her Clone figurine. She then becomes lost and can’t find Hunter.
This is the point where Fennec makes her presence known to Omega.
In order to gain Omega’s trust, Fennec offers to help her find Hunter and the others. She also plays off of Omega’s naivety since Omega is more trusting of other people.
That’s how child-abductors work: they try gaining the child’s trust, either through kind words or “gifts” (for example, ice cream or a toy) in order to make the child go with them.
In Fennec’s case, she steals a piece of fruit for Omega and tries convincing her that it’s okay to break the rules now and then.
Hunter is frantic to find Omega, unaware of Fennec. It’s the worst feeling a parent can face: not knowing where your kid is and whether he or she has been taken.
John Anderton in Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report” experienced that same dread after his son goes missing at a public pool, resulting in years of guilt over that day.
Hunter catches up with Omega and Fennec. Knowing Fennec is dangerous, Hunter fights her off in order for Omega to escape.
Omega’s react to Hunter’s warnings about Fennec reveal that she, like most kids, don’t understand that you can’t trust every person you meet. Some of them may mean you harm, along with your family and friends.
Luckily for the Bad Batch, Hunter is able to rescue Omega following a high-speed chase.
