Star Wars: The Bad Batch – Episode Eight review
Some battles are unavoidable.
Such is the case between Crosshair and the Bad Batch.
In Episode Eight, “Reunion,” the Bad Batch face off against Crosshair and his Imperial Special Forces troops.
After successfully removing their inhibitor chips, Hunter and the others find themselves trapped on the junkyard planet, Bracca.
It was clear Crosshair was gonna be a major threat after he turned against his Bad Batch Clone brothers back in Episode One.
Now, this fight has finally come around.
No matter how hard Hunter and his friends try, they were always gonna have to face Crosshair — either to save him by removing his inhibitor chip, or when the Empire sent Crosshair after him.
Admiral Rampart orders Crosshair to kill them.
Hunter wants to stay on Bracca in order to salvage what the Bad Batch can from the armories on the old Republic ships, along with the ships’ intel on the bridge (as Tech points out). He knows that he and his friends will need money if they’re able to survive.
As Hunter makes it clear to his friends, they can’t rely on the Republic government to help them anymore, so they need all the resources they can get. He hopes to sell the ship’s weapons and torpedos for much needed money.
Hunter’s reasoning also shows why Americans can’t rely on the government to help them: they need to be able to provide for themselves
There is also discussion between Hunter and Echo about the Bad Batch’s future. Echo believes that they should have left with Rex in order to join the fight against the Empire, while Hunter’s wants to build a new life for themselves. Echo’s reasoning is that they are soldiers and he doesn’t know what other life they could have.
That’s when Crosshair and his human soldiers arrive, reinforced by regular Clone troopers. Crosshair anticipates the Bad Batch’s tactics and is able to lure them into a trap.
Meanwhile on Kamino, the Kaminoans are desperate to get Omega back. They enact measures to retrieve her on Bracca.
Some quick thinking on Tech’s part allows the Bad Batch to escape from the Imperial forces.
However, Crosshair knows his friends so well that he’s able to pin them down again in the ship’s engine. After setting off explosives to damage the engine, Hunter and Omega are separated form the others.
That’s when the Bad Batch run into the Kamimoans backup plan: Cad Bane.
Bane is another bounty hunter. He was also one of the main antagonists in the “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” series.
Hunter and Bane engage in a Western showdown ready to draw their pistols. Unfortunately, Bane has the faster gun and takes Omega.
Hunter survives and the Bad Batch are able to escape from Bracca. They must now find some way to rescue Omega.
